Summary

The Consumer and Patient Affinity Group Leadership Committee (CPAG LC) held a teleconference on Tuesday, January 26, 2016 to discuss high-level principles and prepare to provide input on the draft Elective Joint Replacement White Paper. During the meeting, the members provided their unique perspectives on consumer and patient engagement principles to help guide the Guiding Committee and Work Groups toward collaborative engagement with the patients, families, and consumer representatives at all levels including care access and design, electronic health data accessibility, and payment modeling. The members were encouraged to submit comments during the public comment period for the Elective Joint Replacement White Paper, and were further encouraged to share their comments on prior Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services bundled payment initiatives.

To achieve the goal of better care, smarter spending, and healthier people, the U.S. health care system must substantially reform its payment structure to incentivize quality, health outcomes, and value over volume. The Health Care Payment Learning and Action Network (LAN) was established as a collaborative network of public and private stakeholders, including health plans, providers, patients, employers, consumers, states, federal agencies, and other partners within the health care community.
