Seema Verma, Administrator of Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, delivered the opening plenary address at the 2017 LAN Fall Summit: Aligning for Action held on October 30th at the Marriott Gateway in Arlington, VA. She spoke to over 600 attendees from across the nation about the importance of taking action to implement alternative payment models. The Administrator also spoke to some of the new administration’s top priorities in healthcare and offered support to the LAN’s focus in the shift away from a fee-for-service system that rewards volume instead of quality. You can read the transcript of her remarks here.

To achieve the goal of better care, smarter spending, and healthier people, the U.S. health care system must substantially reform its payment structure to incentivize quality, health outcomes, and value over volume. The Health Care Payment Learning and Action Network (LAN) was established as a collaborative network of public and private stakeholders, including health plans, providers, patients, employers, consumers, states, federal agencies, and other partners within the health care community.
